Adapt, Mitigate, Innovate, Unite

Since 2019 I have been working on a collaboration with my colleague at Southern Cross University, Dr Jean S Renouf. Jean has conducted interviews with climate scientists around the world - 16 experts on climate change across 13 countries - and he has surveyed over 900 climate experts online. These interviews have focused not just on climate change and its causes and effects, but more importantly, on the practical strategies for both mitigating and living with climate change as a reality, that these scientists employ in their daily lives.

Here, we see the project’s culmination on the incredible LED display system on the Adelaide Festival Centre in South Australia, playing at the AFC throughout July 2020.

Our collaboration involves combining extracts from these interviews with the satellite images I have been using as part of my ongoing collaboration with Geoscience Australia, as employed in the Open Air and Invalid Data projects. Our intuition here, is that there is something unexpected but potent in the conjunction of these two very different forms of data. In addition to its design for the Adelaie Festival Centre, pilot versions of the project were developed for the Southern Cross University “discovery wall” videowall systems in Lismore and Gold Coast.
